Miho Kashima Shrine
This shrine was created by merging Miho Shrine, which was founded in 1479 (Bunmei 11), and Kashima Shrine, which was founded during the Kan’ei era (1624-1644), in 2004. Each shrine has a long history.

(Miho Shrine)
The Kamakura shogunate, which had been in power since the end of the 12th century, was destroyed in 1333 when Kusunoki Masashige, Nitta Yoshisada, and Ashikaga Takauji rebelled against it. Behind this was a movement to overthrow the shogunate led by the 96th Emperor Godaigo.
There was a nobleman named Fujiwara (Manri-no-koji) Fujifusa who supported Emperor Godaigo.

After the fall of the Kamakura shogunate, Fujifusa retired to become a monk in 1334, and legends about his whereabouts exist in various places.
It is said that during the reign of Emperor Go-Murakami, the seventh son of Emperor Godaigo, an old man who moved from Kyoto to this small fishing village preached about loyalty and filial piety to the people there. This old man is said to have been actually Fujiwara no Fujifusa, and after his death, the site of his hermitage became the shrine.

(Kashima Shrine)
Long ago, a shrine washed up on Shibahama from offshore.
Recognizing that it belonged to Kashima Shrine in Hitachi Province (Ibaraki Prefecture), it was tied to a boat and rowed back home, but after a while it washed up on Shibahama again, and it is said to have been enshrined here.

御穂鹿嶋神社
文明11年（1479年）創建の御穂神社と寛永年間（1624-44年）創建の鹿嶋神社を平成16年（2004年）に合祀した神社です。それぞれの神社に長い歴史があります。

(御穂神社)
12世紀末から続いた鎌倉幕府は、1333年に、楠木正成、新田義貞、足利尊氏らが反旗を翻して滅びましたが、その背景には、第96代後醍醐天皇を中心とした倒幕運動がありました。
藤原(万里小路)藤房という公卿がおり、後醍醐天皇を支えました。
鎌倉幕府幕府滅亡後の1334年藤房は、出家して隠居し、その後の消息には各地に伝承が存在します。
この御穂神社については、後醍醐天皇の第七皇子である後村上天皇の頃、京都から移り住んだ老人が小さな漁村だったこの村の人々に忠孝の義を説いていたが、実はその老人は藤原藤房で、藤房亡きあとに、その庵跡が神社になったと伝えられています。

(鹿嶋神社)
その昔、沖合いからこの芝浜に祠が流れつきました。
常陸の国(茨城県)の鹿嶋神宮のものと分かり、舟につないで漕ぎ帰りましたが、暫くするとまた芝浜に流れつき、この地で祀られるようになっと伝わります。
